Long ago in America


Long ago in America (called Once Upon a Time in America, incl C'era una volta in America) - American crime drama directed in 1984 by Sergio Leone with Robert De Niro and James Woods in the main roles. The film tells the story of five adolescent boys in the Jewish quarter of New York in 20 years last century.

Premiere of the film took place at the Cannes Film Festival in 1984. In Europe, issued in the cinemas movie lasted 229 minutes. Version released on the American market was 90 minutes shorter and, according to Leone's lost its whole meaning and sense. Events in the shorter version is presented in chronological order while the longer version of the structure is built on retrospekcjach main character.

At the Cannes Film Festival has been received very favorably, and after the premiere piętnastominutową received a standing ovation. Part of the audience (especially women), however, was sick rape scene and the general presentation of women in film resulting from mizoginii Leone. In Europe, the movie has a great artistic and commercial success in the United States and Canada were divided.
